The coating is mainly applied to touchscreens on personal devices such as smartphones and tablets. Because these screens are constantly being touched, the layer helps to minimize the build-up of annoying fingerprints and smudges, keeping the display clear and clean.
The coating is designed to repel the skin's natural oils (sebum). This makes fingerprints less likely to stick to the screen surface, resulting in a significantly cleaner and smudge-free display during normal use.
Any smudges or fingerprints that do appear on the screen are much easier to remove than on an untreated screen. Often, a quick wipe with a soft cloth is enough to get the display completely clean and clear again.
The reduction in smudges and oil residue helps maintain the visual quality of the screen. Brightness, contrast, and readability are less affected, ensuring an undisturbed and more enjoyable viewing experience.
The layer consists of a very thin, fluoropolymer-based material similar to Teflon. This composition creates a surface with low surface tension, which explains the coating's effective oil-repellent properties.
