What is an IPS Touch Display?

An IPS display is not inherently a touchscreen. IPS (In-Plane Switching) describes panel technology that provides high image quality with wide viewing angles and accurate colors. Touchscreen functionality is a separate, added layer that allows interaction via touch. Thus, an ‘IPS touch display’ is the combination of a high-quality IPS panel with a touch-sensitive layer, resulting in a device with both excellent visual performance and intuitive operation.

IPS panel technology

IPS (In-Plane Switching) is a type of LCD display technology known for its superior viewing angles and color reproduction. Unlike older technologies such as TN, IPS provides a consistent and clear image even when the screen is viewed from a sharp angle, which is essential for picture quality.

Independent Touch layer

Touch functionality is a separate feature, achieved by placing a touch-sensitive layer on top of the display panel. Screen technology (such as IPS, TN or OLED) and the presence of a touch layer are two independent features of a display. They can be combined, but are not the same thing.
